CanaryA canary is a cryptographically signed message that can one can verify against anothers public key. To generate a canary a password is required and the key is only breifly every decrypted in a systems memory. Also, that system is almost standalone and is not exposed. The hidden service however is running all the time, the private keys are not encrypted and sit in Tor's memory all the time. So the canary is what proves it is actually Kaizu running KLOS and not hackers. Another benefit with a canary is that it informs people if Kaizu goes missing. Authorities may prevent her from posting a takedown notice. Thus to beat censorship of this kind, the canary being posted frequently turns silence into a message.
